Ingleside Plantation has been owned and operated as an agricultural enterprise since 1890 by the Flemer family. Carl Flemer, Jr. entered the wholesale nursery business in 1949. Under his direction, the nursery grew to 1,800 acres and became known as “Virginia’s largest and finest nursery.”
During the 1970’s two sons, Fletch and Doug, returned to help manage the family operation. During this time, Ingleside’s B & B nursery operation expanded to include a commercial vineyard and winery. In the early 1990’s, the nursery, again, expanded its operation to include a pot-n-pot growing area, and perennials in containers. Fletch served as President of the corporation and nursery operations until 2022. Doug is proprietor of Ingleside Vineyards, a 50 acre vineyard and winery which today produces a limited production of award-winning wines. The nursery is currently under the supervision of Jordan Flemer, son of Doug.
Located in the beautiful Northern Neck area of Virginia, Ingleside Nurseries owns 2,500 acres with approximately 1,500 acres dedicated to nursery production. The nursery acreage is located within a five-mile radius of the main office on 22 different farm locations. Soil types range from heavy clay loam to sandy loam, allowing a wide variety of plant material to be produced by utilizing soil types best suited for each variety’s proper growth and digging. The nursery employs 100 full-time employees. Ingleside works with Bernie’s 8 Trees LLC to contract dig all B&B material.
Ingleside Nurseries produces a general line of nursery stock from ground covers to large specimen shade trees. Our market area includes the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and Midwest regions. The production list includes vines, perennials, grasses, shrubs, azaleas, broadleaf evergreens, conifers, ornamental and shade trees of which approximately 50% is produced in containers, and 50% is field-grown.
In our PNP (pot-in-pot) growing area, we produce evergreens, flowering and shade trees in sizes #7, #15, #25, and #45 containers. This provides the availability of a wide variety and sizes of plants for year-round installation.
